District heating
District heating is hot water that is distributed through underground pipelines to homes and buildings in Borås. The hot water is used in buildings to heat water circulating through radiators and also for heating tap water. We use different kinds of fuel to heat the water in the district heating lines at the Ryaverket district heating plant. District heating is produced in eco-smart ways in Borås. Today most of the heat energy comes from sorted household waste and biofuels from e.g. the forestry industry.
District heating is not a new phenomenon; it has been around in Sweden since 1948 and in Borås since 1959.
